The 25th Annual Larry Fournier Memorial Hockey Tournament
will be held from March 2, 2012 to March 11, 2012.

Larry Fournier's illustrious career includes being one of Amesbury High School's all time great athletes. Larry was a three time league defenseman during an era (1968-1972) where Amesbury compiled one of it's best winning cycles ever. In his three varsity seasons, Amesbury High School won 52, lost 5, tied 3, had three consecutive tourney berths and two league titles. Larry Co-Captained Amesbury High School's only Boston Garden Semi-finalist team (up to that point) in 1971. His career individual totals include 108 points; 45 goals and 63 assists. His top season 1970- 1971 of 22 goals and 27 assists were from #17's familiar position at left defense.

Larry played at Berwick Academy in 1972-1973 with the likes of Mike Eurizone and company, and played a year at Salem State under Barry Urbanski. In 1976, he was a late cut in his Olympic team bid in the Eastern Region.

Larry played in several areas in New England amateur and semi-pro leagues from 1973-1986. Most notably was his leadership and work with the long standing Amesbury Maples, one of New England's original and most traditional amateur teams.

From 1978-1987, Larry became a popular and prominent figure with his assistant coaching rapport in three Cape Ann League schools. Larry handled the defensive duties in his seven years (4 at Amesbury High School and the last 3 at Newburyport High School). Eight of the nine years that Larry assisted those teams they went on to tournament play. In addition, an average of two of his defensemen landed All Star status annually at their respective schools.

Larry lost a month's battle with cancer and passed away in October of 1987. What he left behind will never be forgotten by the many, many friends that he touched over his 33 years. Both Dan O'Connell, the Atheletic Director and varsity hockey coach at Triton High School, and Leo Dupere, former varsity hockey coach at Amesbury and Newburyport High Schools, felt that Larry was the ultimate of all assistant coaches and a MODEL FOR LIFE!!!

In 1988, the Massachusetts State Hockey Coaches' Association honored Larry by inducting him into the Coaches Hall Of Fame.
